Main considerations when choosing carpet

I’ve never bought carpet before! What are the main aspects I’ll need to choose between or consider?

It is for upstairs; hallway and three bedrooms. I live alone with no children or pets, so it’s fairly low use as it’s only me really (and the boyfriend occasionally when I allow it Grin)

I get static shocks when vacuuming mixed fibre carpets so my main priority was a 100% wool carpet
It also seems to have very good natural stain resistance

I also went for best underlay I could

I prefer Berber to tufted pile

Buy what you like and can afford. Bedrooms are low traffic areas and part of the house where you can save money if you need to. Carpets with some synthetic content are harder wearing than pure wool. Buy your underlay online - you can save a lot of money, especially as you are carpeting a large area at the same time. You'll probably pay £2-3 per square metre for it as opposed to £7-8+ from a carpet shop.

Thank you! Especially for the underlay tips! Hadn’t even considered it Confused

Would have said 100% will the whole way until I got carpet moths. They hat the cheaply mix one I got for the children's bedrooms!

So get 100% wool. Vacuum really well around the edges and under furniture. But also get the lavender moth spray from Lakeland and spray the edges a couple of times a year and you'll be fine. Doesn't smell and really works!

We have a beautiful wool herringbone by alternative flooring (slightly cheaper than gorgeous crucial trading carpets)

If you plan to live in the house a long time don't invest in the most expensive carpet that will last forever. You will definitely be sick of it after ten years let alone 30 years.

Get good underlay if you want that soft sinking feeling whcih is nice in a bedroom.
