Dulux Overtly Olive?

So the one wall in our lounge is currently painted the gorgeous Stiffkey Blue and has been for around 10 months. It's a lovely colour & I practically begged OH to let me do it & he loves it too. Only, for the last couple of months, I've found it a tad oppressing, as much i still admire the colour, it has started to make the room feel moody?! Oh maybe I am being daft, perhaps I am just bored of the colour, but I have been hankering after a greenish hue....

Perhaps on a slightly lighter tone though. The room is large, other walls are just white. Skirting boards are white. Neutral decor. I know don't want a teal tone or a mint tone. I quite like the look of Overtly Olive by Dulux. And it's cheaper than F&B, less for OH to moan about. Anyone care to show me your greens?

Just had a thought about it (yes at this time in the morning!) would I be able to paint straight over the stiffkey or would I have to paint it white first? I know it'll take a few coats, just wondering whether that will do it?

I'm really fed up with the 'darkness' now.

That looks really nice BettysMom.

I've painted a sample on the back of a piece of wallpaper and held it up against my wall. I was expecting something a tad darker. I'm not so sure now, I think it may just look 'Apple white' on my wall? Or is it because it's held against a dark colour? I definitely don't want apple white, I want a richer, deeper tone. These walls in this picture is Overtly Olive but it doesn't look anything like it on my sample!

I've got Overtly Olive in my kitchen, together with Hessian (I think). It was painted nearly eight years ago and I still love it!

This is my samples. The lighter one is nearer to the patio doors. OH reckons I'm making a HUGE mistake painting over the navy, especially as it's F&B, he's grumbling as it cost £45! I'd prefer a green closer to the pic I posted above but it's looks as though Overtlly Olive isn't going to do that on my wall and Dulux are limited colours. I probably could get a closer match with F&B but OH will not pay out & im out of funds :( oh well.

Find the green you want and have it colour matched in Dulux matt washable , it's near on idenitical to farrow and ball and costs a fraction. Of the price.

We have overtly olive in our kitchen and bedroom. Its the only colour we've not got fed up of yet...

So, I've put the sample paper up against the opposite wall (white wall) and OMG it does looks amazing totally different! So I'm in a conundrum, well I could paint the opposite wall with this, but it may look too much, one wall being stiffkey blue and the opposite being Overtly Olive? Or paint over the stiffkey blue with white & paint this white wall Overtly Olive. I know OH will not like the latter idea- he really doesn't want to lose the blue. I just want a change. I'm doing the work & paying! Pics of samples on other wall.

I think muchof the difference is the blue against the green, it will make it look different as the blue is so very dark.

Personally I think thr blue and the green in one room is too much, and the other two walls white won't be nice.

I’m thinking about Overtly Olive for my kitchen. I got about a dozen Blush greenish samples from Dulux and the OO is my favourite.

But I’m nervous how dark it will be I’m a north facing room.

youvegottobekidding · 09/04/2019 17:19

I've decided not to go with the green. It would have been too much like Bluntless said to have both colours in one room & I have to admit, there is nothing really wrong with the blue, only me being slightly bored with it, it's still a lovely colour that draws you in.

Imogen, do a sample if you can on the back of a largish piece of wallpaper or something like, I'm glad I did and move it around the kitchen walls. You said your kitchen has north facing walls, to be honest I think OO is better suited to north facing wall, the result from my sample was a much richer colour, although darker, but better colour when held up against a north facing wall.

Thanks I will do that .

Every single wall in my house is that colour, I adore it.
It looks different in every room depending on all the light too!
