How would you furnish this living room?

Just to say, I haven't bought this house yet but we might be. Just musing how I would furnish this living room. I have attached a photo. I am very unimaginative.

Orange- sofa
Green- drawers/cupboards/display unit
Yellow- TV stand and TV

I haven't included a table as you have to walk through the room to get to the kitchen so thought it might be in the way? Also would one corner sofs be enough? I have a 3 + 2 where I am now (and table and chairs) in my living room.
Anyone with more imagination/decor skills think of a better way of doing it.

It's a big room. I don't think the doors are to scale, and you could consider rehanging them to face outwards. I think you might need to be brave and move the sofas away from the walls.

My first thought is one sofa pointing at the fire, with a walkway behind it, another under the window pointing at the kitchen door, and the TV in the green blob corner next to the fireplace.

To help you be a bit braver, that room has a diagonal length of over 6m. A comfortable distance from the telly is normally about 3m. That's not an absolute rule, and bigger TVs give you more flexibility, but I think you need to get the sofa and TV closer together somehow.

TV over the mantlepiece is another option.

Honestly if you can afford it, I would block the doorway to the kitchen. There’s no need for two doors. The it would give you more wall space to put a sofa against etc. plus then the room wouldn’t become an corridor (because let’s face it that’s what ppl do! Plus all you’ll want to do when cooking is close the door if you are in the sitting room. If you can’t block it up maybe just lock it?

Is there a table in the kitchen at the moment? Because that is a very narrow room for a kitchen diner. Another option might be to put an L shaped sofa in the middle of the lounge, main bit facing the fire with a left hand "wing", TV in top left corner again, and use the top right corner for an extending dining table.

You can't really tell from the diagram I put on but there is only one door to the kitchen through the living room, the other door you can see is to a pantry off the kitchen. No dining table in kitchen- there wouldn't be room. We might extend the kitchen in the future.

How is it furnished now? Bottom right hand corner...can that door be blocked off. If so potential for a chair there or in the square section of the room.

Not decorated, it is an empty room with wooden floorboards. Only has a fireplace in atm.

@househelpneeded to be honest that would make it a no go for me, but that’s just me? Are there no other houses in the area/in your budget with a more traditional layout that would make it less awkward. If you can’t fit your current furniture well enough would it annoy you? Would you have to/be able to buy new furniture? Unless there is an amazing plus point to the property then I wouldn’t do it, is it really really good value, amazing location etc etc??

I would put some kind of tall storage cabinet where you have the green spot on the right, and put a sofa in front of it, pulled forward so you have enough space to access it. This could be a corner sofa with the short edge against the wall to the kitchen if you wanted. You could also have a (smaller and not too deep) sofa) against the wall with the window, and then I would swap the TV to the other corner by the fire. Have side tables rather than a coffee table so that it doesn't clutter the room too much.

Alternatively you could have an armchair in the top left corner with shelves behind.

Depends a bit what you need, lifestyle wise! Do you have a family? How many people ever watch TV at once? Do you need a table and chairs? etc etc

2 adults, 1 teen, 1 toddler and hopefully a baby in the future. So quite a few of us 😀
I have been googling ideas of how to furnish alcoves, so there are some possibilities. Although knowing us it will end up with storage boxes filled with random toys/footballs.
