How to start decorating - selecting sofas, rugs, art etc

We moved into a house two years ago. Its in good condition, we have not done a thing for decorating. We brought our old Ikea furniture with the thought we would buy nicer pieces etc. We still have not done this! I just feel overwhelmed on where to start. We have enough savings to buy all the pieces we need. I am thinking sofas, rugs, art, lamps, accessories. But its frustrating on how to know where to start! How do you figure out colour scheme?

I have no idea where people start either. Mine is a hotch potch of different styles so good idea to have a plan. Are you looking at home magazines and Pinterest? Maybe flick through and build up a mood board of things you like the look of and go from there

Get yourself on Instagram and Pinterest. There's a whole new world about to open up for you in your home and you turn it into yours!

The way I advise my customers when it comes to colour schemes, is to find an item or two that they really like and then take the colours from them. The next step is to decide what colour palette you would like e.g Light and Bright or Muted colours (Farrow and Ball) Once you have decided on this you can then choose the final part of the scheme e.g Contemporary, Harmonic, Triadic etc. I hope this has helped?

Weve recently moved and do this, I started on Pinterest and Instagram, screenshot different elements I loved and went from there. Personally found a bit of a theme when I created a mood board which I kept on my phone and lots of trips to homesense, local retailers/makers and it's coming together. Don't be afraid to follow home accounts that fit your style on IG and ask questions, I've got lots of pieces from recommendations and small businesses I wouldn't have found otherwise.
