Built in shelves: white or wall colour?!

I’ve just had some shelves built into an alcove in the living room and am wondering whether to have them the same colour as the walls (Dulux Timeless, a very pale cream), to blend in, or white to match the skirting boards, window frames, door etc. Any thoughts? If anyone has photos to share of built in shelves, white or not, that would be amazing!

Without a picture it's a bit difficult to imagine. I think I would probably go for the white option to make the shelves look deliberate in the space, rather than like you are trying to hide them like you might paint boxing in the same colour to hide it...

If you paint the shelves the same colour as the walls now, and then change the wall colour, it might look wrong, and painting shelves isn't something you'd want to do very often. So if I were you I'd stick with white.

We do have built in shelves but they are wood. Well, veneer, really.
