Labour cost for curtain making

Hello!
Have any of you had bespoke curtains made recently? Curtain makers seem to charge labour by an amount per required width of fabric. We have had quotes ranging between £35 and £60 per width. £60 seems steep... what is your experience ladies? Even £35 is a significant amount. For a window of approx 2m wide with a drop of 275cms, the labour charge at £35 per width would be c £140. Alternatively at £60 per width, the making cost is £240. Interested to hear how some of you have got on? Thank you

My daughters bedroom curtains were outrageously expensive......I’ve put high street ready made or second hand in every other room!!

It depends on the curtain heading, and on whether the curtains are lined, or interlined as well. I am an interior designer and am always amazed at how cheaply people think curtains and blinds should be made, but still want then to be bespoke and handmade.

It would take me several hours to make curtains for a window that size. £140 sounds really reasonable to me. Would that be for lined curtains?

People never seem to value sewing people's time or skill.

Online bespoke curtain places will probably undercut that.

The lady who made my curtains for me charged by the hour. Three large pairs (all about a 9' drop & each curtain 1.5 widths) and two smaller curtains. All lined. Came to £325 which included her coming to hang them.

I pay about £45 - £50 per width for local companies. I think it’s fine. Our windows are 270W x 235D.

£50.00 per width for any curtains I've had made in last15 years; pencil/ pinch pleat.
