How to style my room around a navy sofa

We live in a Victorian house, high ceilings, large skirting boards etc. We're redoing a sitting room that has french windows onto the garden and have ordered a fabulous navy blue velvet sofa. The room is through to the kitchen which is quite dark and has cream painted shaker style units.
I like bold colours so I'm fancying a limey colour or maybe pale yellow for the walls but I think that could be a bit insipid. My fear is the curtains, I don't want boring but they're big and will be fairly expensive. Any ideas to help me anyone? (In heading to Pinterest now, I maybe some time!)

Love mustard and teal with navy

I'd go for a pale neutral on the walls and then a bright yellow in small bursts - picture rail/skirting, curtain tie-backs, cushions etc.

I'd have light pink walls and walnut wood and lots of greenery.
