Hi, looking to paint out living room before new sofas arrive, but struggling to know what to do colour wise. Carpet and sofa fabric have both grey and brown tinged to them. I would rather stick to fairly neutral colours.

We have a fireplace/chimney breast and picture rail. The room seems to struggle for light sometime, quite often have lights on.

Pic to follow, wall lights are staying. Will paint fireplace surround white and fireplace tiles black.

Any suggestions welcome?
I quite like the idea of dulux dusted damson or heartwood as a feature wall on either chimney breast or alcolves, but not sure if its too dark and how to incorporate with picture rail.
Any ideas welcome😁

I think in a dark room it's best to lean into the dark colours. White in a dark room just looks grubby. I would paint it all dark grey or a rich blue or green up to and including the picture rail, skirting too, then an off-white or v pale grey above.

We have F&B Elephants Breath. Also have a brown sofa and neutral flooring. I live in a Victorian cottage but we don't have high ceilings or huge windows so it's not a particularly light house, but it's very cosy.

I love F&B's Brassica currently & think it could work well in your room.

Hague Blue with white/ cream woodwork cornice and ceiling - is wonderful ( Google Hague Blue livingroom if you don't believe me!). Makes the room feel much bigger, grander and warmer even in a North facing room. It is a gorgeous rich tone.

I have Farrow & Ball Skimming Stone (a kind of 'greige') on both my living room and snug walls [both face East]. One room has a brown leather sofa in with champagne/natural coloured cushions, curtains and a creamy brown carpet. The other room has a medium/dark grey sofa in with medium grey carpet, champagne/natural coloured curtains and either 2x grey + 2x ochre cushions or 2x grey + 2x dark pink one side & ruby the other ['jewel' coloured] cushions / change them seasonally) - the wall colour works well in both rooms - very much an easy neutral and is also warm looking.

We've just done our dark lounge in dulux denim drift. Like a pp said, we decided to embrace the dark and it feels really cosy and calm. We have neutral sofa so are going with pink, white or cream and copper accents. Attached pics of during Smile

Orcinus we have just painted our living room in Elephants Breath. We have wooden floors and brown & grey sofas and although I like it, it all looks a bit brown.
Do you have any colour in rugs or cushions etc to add some colour? I don’t know what colour accessories would go.
