Urgent paint colour advice needed

I had painters in last week and while in general they did a good job they painted the dado rail in the kitchen the same colour as the walls when I had wanted it to be white. It doesn't look bad, just not what I had imagined.

They can come back tomorrow to paint it white but now I'm not sure. I thought the decision making part of this process was over!

Picture of the room in question attached. The walls are very pale grey and architraves and skirting so night white.

That should be bright white.

I’m a designer and actually will do either for my clients. It obviously depends on their preference and also the rest of the design I’ve created.

In your case I do actually really like it as they’ve done it. It’s a lovely colour you’ve chosen! What I AlWAYS say to my clients is that it’s their home they have to be happy with all of it.

If your initial reaction was you wanted it white, and you say it doesn’t look bad but not what you imagined, I would advise you to have them paint it white. You want to feel that it matches your vision and you want to feel that it looks great not just meh.

Thanks BF888. Strangely this is the only room in the house with the rail. I’ll have another think about it and make my final decision.

Glad you like the colour. I admit I’m still worried I’ve gone too light. The grey carpet in the hallway and bedrooms will be getting taken up soon and the floorboards polished to match the living room. There is just way too much grey in those rooms at the moment.

We have a dado rail and it's the same colour as the wall. Personally I would leave as is. Since there's no dado rail in the other rooms there's more continuity or have it the same colour.

I really like it. What colour is on the walls if you don't mind me asking?

bluetongue · 14/01/2019 07:59

I decided to leave it as. Thanks for the advice.

Fireside the colour is Dulux grey reflection. I’m in Australia so the Dulux colours are all different here. I actually found it in the white section of the Dulux colour atlas. Most of the other greys I tried came out blue or purple. I think it might not have effect in a house with more natural house. If I’m being super picky I probably could have gone a shade or two darker in the main bedroom.
