Which walls should I paint in a darker colour?

I’m eyeing up dulux denim drift for a couple of walks in my living room but I don’t know which ones to paint. I expect I’ll put it with some kind of white colour or polished pebble. I have a chimney breast so I could paint that but I think I’d prefer to paint the walls either side of the fireplace. Those are the biggest walls in the room though and I’m worried about the room looking dark (although I am addressing the lighting). I thought I could paint the wall behind the sofa? Or the window wall?
In all honestly I have no idea! Is there a rule of thumb to follow? Help!

I'd go with either side of the fireplace or the chimney breast as the fireplace is likely to be the focal point. No point in picking a feature paint colour and sitting with your back to it imo.
