Measuring sofa...

We've seen a sofa we really like. Our living room is large, however it's more long than wide, iukwim. It's around 19ft long by 10ft wide. The sofa we've seen is a corner sofa & last night I was trying to measure out how it would fit & I couldn't believe the measurements were adding up to the sofa being 8ft x 8ft! When we sat in the display model in the warehouse, there was no way it was 8ft x 8ft! (247cm x 245cm) so what am I doing wrong?

Hi there, we've just had a corner sofa, and so glad I did what you're doing and measure it out in the living room before you buy.
I even got bits of masking tape to measure out the actual space it would cover. I almost bought another one that would have been too big, even though it seemed small in the showroom iyswim.
The guys who delivered our sofa say this is quite common, people order sofas that are too big for the space, and then it is such a hassle.

The backs of sofas add a lot to its size so it probably doesn’t feel 8 ft. If you put newspaper on the floor that’s a good way to assess its overall footprint
