Dining table with benches instead of chairs

Is this a good idea or not? I can't decide. I have got an alcove in my kitchen that I think I can get a 6ft table in with enough room to walk around each side.

I am considering benches instead of chairs because they look like they might take up less room but I am not sure if that is the case or if they will be uncomfortable.

It is just me and DD so I thought we could push it back to the wall most of the time.

Check the benches fit under the table and not stick out

Get a chair for the end if you’re worried

Go shopping and try some out

Check with local carpenters can be cheaper hand made

We do and it’s good with small kids as they can have friends squeeze on without us needing to get spare chairs out! But this only works until they get to about 7 years when they get bigger.
We have bench one side to save space and chairs the other

Im looking into some- u can get one side bench and the other side chairs which
I think I’ll settle on

We have one and love it! Currently sitting on the bench

We have 2 benches and 2 chairs. I love it. Benches can tuck away under table. Everyone comments on how nice the table is and how they love the benches! We are happy with it.

I don't think I want a mix of bench and chairs, I have got plenty of chairs I can use if I need to add extras.

I haven't got the time (or energy) for local carpenters, I just want to buy something online, this looks like it will do. I think that this looks like it fits in rather than sticks out.

Do you sit on the bench Digestive - are they less comfy than a chair?

We have benches and they’re ok but not comfy for any length of time. Back support is better especially for elderly guests.

Benches are fine especially for kids as Digestive says, but I find them a bit fiddly and undignified to get in and out of if they are crammed in tight to table legs, or if you're in the middle. They work best with a trestle table.
