Carpet vs LVT flooring, advice needed

Recently moved into a new property which we are currently decorating. We have two girls one who is 8 months and another who is 20 months. I would like to put LVT (Kardean/Amtico) in our lounge as it's easier to clean as we have an open lounge which also has the dinning room in where the girls eat. However my partner says this flooring is too hard and is worried the girls will hurt themselves etc

Are there any options out there that people have experience with that are suitable to use with this age group that are softer than others but still reasonably hard wearing?

The other choice would be to have the dinning area in LVT and carpet in the lounge section where they will play but not sure how the two will look together.

Thanks in advance

I’d put down the LVT and have rugs to make it cosy/ divide the open plan into ‘rooms’

It doesn’t have to be LVT but guess that’s going to be the softest option other than carpet.

We may divide the room up by having a wall installed but that will be a few years off.

Thanks

I was worried about this but then someone pointed out that babies all around the world live in houses without carpets. Hard flooring is popular in many other countries. I'd go for the LVT.

We had real wood flooring when our son was born until he was 2. Before he started walking, we got him to wear a padded helmet and it worked well. Once he started walking, he didn't really needs it anymore. So my advice is go for the LVT.

Thanks for the replies. It’s convincing my wife maybe the hard bit as she is on her own looking after them while I’m at work. The carpet fitter that came round to measure up didn’t help by telling her it was like glass 😩 🙈
