Ooh that’s lovely!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 07/12/2018 01:59

@Jenb2104 those are stunning! Did you make your bannister garland? What are the starburst things in your tree?

BirdyandBee · 07/12/2018 10:26

@jenb2104 so lovely! I’m planning on redoing our staircase next year so I can put a garland up it!

I made a wreath! Never made anything like this before, pretty happy with it!

Thank you 😊
Yeah, I made the bannister garland. It's just a cheap garland from wilko with various baubles and lights attached.

The starburst things are super flowers from Tj Hughes. I've also seen them online on a few sites.

Lovely! I just started typing you a reply to ask how you made your garland. Then I remembered we have moved to a bungalow and have no stairs Grin

BirdyandBee · 07/12/2018 18:38

@fashonista101 the wreath is fab! I’m going to a friends on tuesday and we’re going to make some wreaths!

Paddington- hilarious! What do you put in the hall to make it christmassy though? 🤔

@GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat

Wreaths are really easy to do, well my "rustic" version is. There's loads of tutorials on Youtube and different bases you can use. I've made my own the last couple of years, it's saves me £40 and I enjoy doing it. I do it like this -

Use a 12" Oasis wreath ring, you need to soak it first until there's no more bubbles coming up.

I cut some branches off our Christmas tree (if you aren't having a real tree try Lidl, a garden centre or go foraging) for the base foliage, then ivy and whatever other greenery I have in the garden. I collect berries and other bits like that when I'm walking the dog. You can buy the orange slices from Hobbycraft or Amazon (or do your own).

Tie your hanging ribbon on the base first then work around adding the base foliage (just push it into the oasis) then your decorative foliage. Then finally any flowers, berries, pine cones etc.(you'll need florists wire and stub wire to attach these bits).

It should last a few weeks, I spritz mine with water to keep it fresher.

Wallington thanks for the tutorial! I made one two years running with snippings from my garden. I followed a tutorial but it didn't use oasis. It was a wire coathanger padded out with a 'newspaper sausage' covered in protective bin liner Xmas Grin
Then wire coiled tightly around, secured and the shrubbery poked under the wire. Weirdly it lasted all of December/Jan 6th without drying out?! I expected it to die/wilt long before.

It looked really good - I went for a spiralling spray effect and a big wire ribbon at the base.

I really like the oasis method - it looks like you can build it up more. I've gone artificial this year (sparkly silver) but I'll try oasis next year. Love a good wreath!

The Christmas tree trimmings from the garden centre (if no tree at home) is genius!

@garethsouthgateswaistcoat We used a wire frame and packed moss into it... and a shit tonne of wire to keep it all in place!
