Hi All,

Trying to find a ceiling light for the front room but no idea what to go for!

We have green walls and grey carpet.

Lots of the chandeliers seem too blingy for me.... but then all look nice in the pictures.

Anyone got or seen anything that can provide some inspiration?!

Not sure what a contemporary chandelier looks like.......??

Bumping with interest

This what I think of in terms of a modern chandelier. Is there some reason you've decided on one rather than a lampshade.

No I am totally open to lampshades too! Just have no idea where to start!
The lady in the lighting shop recommended a multi bulb shade if that’s the way we went.
Just looking for some inspiration really!!

I love the ones with refective metal on the inside. They give a lovely glow to the lighting. Or if you prefer something more modern the Ikea sculptural one are great.

This is mine. Not contemporary and not to my taste particularly but my house sort of dictates what is needed IYSWIM.

Ignore the ugly light fitting. That will be replaced when the room gets sorted properly.

It's from John Lewis. Fabric, rather than the plastic that some curvy shades are. We're building the room around it!

I have the Ikea knappa in the last post Grin

I've been exploring chandeliers too OP. I'm not keen on the ones with multiple bulbs/ 'candles' or ones with too much chrome on show.

Really I just want a mega beaded one (plastic crystals are fine in this instance) that I can't see the bulb through, doesn't cost the earth and isn't pathetically small once hung. Not asking for much Grin

I considered the Dunelm Blenheim (in clear not smoke) but I'm not sure about the shape. It comes in two sizes and I'd need the larger one for my room. A plus side is that it's easy fit and doesn't require an electrician Smile

That's an interesting one PickAChew!
I was in JL lighting dept last week and didn't see it, is it current?

I'm considering a copper lined shade for a different room Lucy!

PickAChew · 07/12/2018 00:32

Well, we bought it earlier this year but it doesn't seem to be on the website, now :(

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 07/12/2018 01:26

How annoying, it's really unusual Smile

You need to look at the light that the chandelier gives out and not just how it looks on its own. I like lights that make interesting shadows etc

ElBelle · 07/12/2018 19:03

We used to have a plastic type beaded one in our old house. It was cheap, chosen quickly and made amazing shadows on the ceiling.... loved it! This time round we have re-done a family home and lights seem to be tricky to pick! Sooo much choice and not sure I know what I like?!
Not to mention that most lighting seems to generally be pretty expensive 😳
Thanks for sharing everyone xx

We'll be have this one, just need it to be mounted to the ceiling...
I found it at the charity shop for £5!😄
And it'll be matching our decor which is sort of farmhouse/rustic style.
