Dado decoration in living room

We've just moved and want to redecorate. The living room is a big room and has a dado rail. I'm thinking either a soft grey or white for the top and a navy blue at the bottom. I can't really find many photos online for inspiration so thought I'd ask here!

Hi I think a not quite bright white would look better than a grey, which might make the room look a bit gloomy but depends on light colour of flooring/furniture,dark blue/navy is very on trend at the moment as well.

Yes it is on trend but I think navy is pretty classic and I've always wanted it. I think white is the way to go, maybe dulux timeless at the top?

I like navy as well, timeless usually goes with most colours or maybe a chalky soft white.

I played it very safe in our old place (tiny) and just had pale grey throughout. This time around I want some colour!

Yy I love colour as well, I tried living with really neutral tones & it’s just not me colour makes me happy.

I quite like mustard too!

yy I like mustard as well, could work with the navy as accent colour cushions/throws maybe with a bit of grey mixed in as well.

peachypetite · 02/12/2018 22:29

Yes I've got my eye on a grey sofa with navy and mustard cushions as accents. I also want a palette throughout the house and not different in each room, I want it to flow if that makes sense!

Yy flow, it does make a difference I think makes the rooms more cohesive, I’m currently doing the same having a green/grey in the front room going through to a pale blue/taupe kitchen & white on the top & as yet undecided bottom half colour in the hall.

Ooo any pics?

Will try & find some later.

I'm not going to be very helpful I'm afraid but I might jog someone else's memory.
I remember a George Clarke programme fairly recently where he did dark blue below / something else on top in a Georgian hallway. It might have been Old House New Home. I've been trawling to find a photo without much luck. IIRC he said the secret was to do the lower/blue in a matt colour. He also said don't do bright-white skirting board because that will cheapen the look (I think the skirting board was the same colour as the wall).
Can anyone else remember the programme?

dontcallmelen · 03/12/2018 10:46

@senua yes I think I do, not sure though if it was a Victorian or Georgian house & yy the skirting boards the same colour.

peachypetite · 03/12/2018 18:53

Oo thanks! I'll try and find it too.

This is my hall currently, I have gone off the dark grey but the top half is a white with a very slight hint of blue, which I don’t really want to redo at the moment as its not been done that long, so looking for something a bit lighter.
