F&B ammonite in hallway?

Hi there

Has anyone used this colour in their hallway? I like the look of it, but am concerned it will look quite dull or sludgey when the whole thing is done, so would really appreciate opinions please?

I have Ammonite in our south facing front room and I love it. I've used a very similar colour in our hallway and don't think it looks dull at all.

Bluntness100 · 25/11/2018 08:33

Thank you! The hall is currently a dirty off white upstairs and the tester looks lovely, but I was concerned it would dull the whole thing down, so that helps.

It's not the best pic but that's our hallway, the colour is Homebase Putty but it's very similar to Ammonite. I'd say they're both a taupe.

We are halfway through decorating various rooms and on Fri my eldest DD’s room was painted ammomonite on ceiling & woodwork, it’s not remotely sludgy but the palest palest grey. Her room is west facing and it’s a full day. I think in a sunny room it’d look white/off white. It’s a lovely colour.

Snowglobes · 25/11/2018 15:26

My DDs ceiling etc looks nothing like blackgrouse hallway. I’ll try taking a photo.

Bluntness100 · 25/11/2018 15:27

Thank you and that's really helpful! And black grouse your hall is lovely.

Our hall is quite dark, so it's good to know it's not dull. I think that's definitely going to be the colour! 😁

Ammonite is nothing like that photo! (Sorry to the poster - it's a lovely hallway just a completely different colour!) I have it in a couple of rooms. It's a very very pale grey not taupe at all. It is beautiful.

Snowglobes · 25/11/2018 15:35

1st photo has ammonite on ceiling, coving and door (walls are plain plaster). This is taken in electric light as a grey day today.
2nd photo ceiling & coving ammonite, walls plaster
3rd photo ceiling & coving ammonite, door Purbeck Stone
The ceiling looks the same as the coving in real life!!

That looks fantastic, thank you! It looks really elegant and not dull at all.

These pics are my front room which is Ammonite with Purbeck Stone on the chimney breast. It is slightly more grey than the hallway colour but in bright daylight (they're south facing) neither colour looks grey at all.

They look different in the pics but when I'm stood in the hall looking into the front room they're hard to tell apart.

Blackgrouse - I have ammonite and yours is nothing like it. Snowglobes is accurate. I love ammonite! Go for it.

Bluntness100 · 25/11/2018 16:01

Yes definitely going to go for it, these pics are beautiful, thank you. Now just need to get the decorator to confirm a date,

Black grouse, that looks beautiful, very elegant and warm, which is exactly what I was looking for.

@Sallygoroundthemoon

I must admit in the hallway pic it looks nothing like Ammonite, but it is honestly very similar, just slightly less grey. The hallway doesn't get as much light as the front room so I didn't want it to look gloomy.

AesopsMables · 25/11/2018 18:24

Ammonite in hall/stairs landing here.

Beautiful colour, elegant and light.

Definitely recommend

Bluntness100 · 25/11/2018 19:05

Ah thank you. I think that's really what I needed, the reassurance, as it's a fairly big job getting it painted all the way up to the top floor and I didn't want to have it started and think.oh that's not good. The tester looks great too. 😁

I haven't used Cornforth on any walls but my kitchen cupboards are that colour. It's darker than Ammonite but lighter than Purbeck Stone.

Bluntness100 · 28/11/2018 07:51

Thank you. I've a sample coming today, who knew it would be this hard to pick a paint colour,,,😳

All three are lovely- we’ve Purbeck Stone and it has a slight lilac tinge in our south facing bedroom. I’m surprised black grouse lounge walls are ammonite as it is a LOT paler than Purbeck Stone- it just goes to show how much lighting effects F&B colours! My DD has ammonite on her ceiling & woodwork (looks white in her west facing bedroom) and Cornforth on her walls - which looks pretty pale grey too,

MaryGubbins · 02/12/2018 23:48

My hall is ammonite and when it’s sunny it looks almost white. I’m going to go darker when I repaint. It also marks like buggery.
