Is herringbone too jazzy???

We have just had an extension to create a kitchen diner space.

For ages have had my heart set on a herringbone oak floor (we have gone for amtico due to cost and practicality) but now worried it’s too much in a big space???

I have talked about it so much my husband is now sold on the idea and I’m thinking maybe I should just go straight forward planks??? Shock

Any thoughts???

Herringbone is lovely, go for it! IME it's at its best in large spaces

ElBelle · 22/11/2018 17:21

Thanks! Just over thinking it all I think!!!

It’s lovely but dating quickly.

MrsLettuce · 22/11/2018 21:25

Confusedherringbone has been about since the 1500's

MrsLettuce · 22/11/2018 21:27

Of course the romans did do herringbone tiled floors but I meant wooden herringbone

SingingSands · 22/11/2018 21:31

Go for it. Herringbone oak floor will be lovely in a big space.
As it’s your house you can do what you want in it! Don’t listen to nonsense about fads and fashions. Dress your house the way you want, to make you happy.

I love it! I think its a classic but if you are worried about it being overpowering as it's a large area you can always break it up with a rug. Also when you have your furniture in (table, chairs etc) it will look different to a large empty space with herringbone.

Very jealous!

minipie · 26/11/2018 18:44

It’s lovely but it will be the star of the show so you would need to keep the rest of the room fairly plain (not too many patterns) IMO.

Ladi85 · 26/11/2018 19:15

If you can afford it go for it! So chic

wowfudge · 26/11/2018 20:16

Herringbone won't date - and it's lovely.

cheesymashandbeans · 26/11/2018 20:19

Ooo I'm jealous! I would love a herringbone wooden floor!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 26/11/2018 20:22

We've just put oak karndean herringbone in our hall, it's fab and it makes me smile every time I walk on it. I'm positive it won't age within the lifetime of the floor!

IdblowJonSnow · 26/11/2018 20:28

I have it and love it! Had no idea it had been trendy and is starting to 'date'! I'm not bothered about what's in or not so won't bother me! Go for it!

vegascouple · 27/11/2018 22:32

We've got it all through our downstairs, it's gorgeous and everyone comments on it, we went for Karndean blonde oak.
Just ignore the terrible tree topper 🤣 it was the kids idea ha

Omg I want it. Gorgeous.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 28/11/2018 17:12

It's gorgeous, definetly the right decision!! I'd love it in our kitchen, but it's a massive space and would cost a fortune, hope you enjoy the floor!

Turnedacorner · 28/11/2018 17:20

That looks gorgeous! Can I ask what Amtico colour/range it is?

ElBelle · 28/11/2018 18:32

Thanks @turnedacorner. It is Spacia Amtico in featured oak. We ended up getting the larger parquet tile 101 x 457 which I think worked better in our room Xx

Thanks @ElBelle, I shall investigate further and request some samples!
