My dark galley kitchen has a bare fluorescent light on the ceiling and that's it. I need to remove this, and likely get the ceiling replastered.
What lights are most effective? Should I do under counter lights? What about the DIY ones, any good?
I feel like there should be some kind of optimum combination...

Get an electrician to quote.

Ive just had one to replace my existing spotlights with LED spotlights in a cooler white, plus under-cabinet lighting to match. The under cabinet lighting was £350 and the replacement spots were £16 each.

Just out of interest, what colour are your cabinets, floor, work surface and walls? Changing the colour of those can make a huge difference.

Thank you, will get an electrician to take a look.

My cupboards etc are all the wrong colours, so that's also in the plan! I have a warm medium wood effect on the doors and matt grey tiles. The worktops are black and grey speckles.

I'm planning to redo tiles and worktops, and possibly replace cupboard doors, too.

If the cupboard doors are good just get them resprayed professionally. It’ll only cost a couple of hundred.
