Help! I need paint colours

nwlv · 19/11/2018 09:37

I have a chocolate brown fabric sofa.

This one: www.dfs.co.uk/escape-express/escx4lecx

I really don't have a clue what colour to paint the walls and would like one colour for the walls and one feature colour for the fire place. I also have dark brown wood windows and window sills.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm completely stuck.

Most shades of blue and green will look good with brown - ranging from pale blue to turquoise and teal. I would keep most of the walls a fairly pale colour, eg cream and then use one of the above as your feature. You could also use variations of brown as your feature wall, eg truffle. It also depends on what colour your accessories/soft furnishings are.

Google Dulux Teal Tension, Dulux Proud Peacock, Dulux Intense Truffle, Dulux Overtly Olive. The Dulux website has a visualiser app which lets you experiment with their colours so you can see what they look like together.

I love Teal Tension!! and thanks the visualizer app sounds great.

The visualiser app is really handy!

What kind of flooring do you have?

I dislike feature walls Grin At a push I'd have feature alcoves (with same colour on all other walls and chimneybreast) but I'm really into wraparound colour right now Wink

Also biased as I have a dusky teal on all walls Grin

Omg that Visualizer is genius!!!

nwlv · 21/11/2018 09:21

yeah i wasn't sure if feature walls where outdated.

I have a horrible beige carpet at the minute but will be changing the flooring as soon as its painted so still yet to decide on that one to guess it depends on the paint colour.

dusky teal sounds amazing what colour did you use?

Oh that gives lots of scope then!

My Homebase were selling off this Dulux line so I bought a few tins on a whim:

here

It turned out really nice! I actually only used one tin, it went on so well it only needed one coat (16m2 room). Don't know if I was just lucky. I mixed a bit of white in but it didn't really lighten it much in the end, just made it go a bit further.

The second picture they've used is definitely NOT the colour. Someone's attached a photo in the reviews which is more realistic.

I love it as the room gets a lot of light at certain times of the day but in the evenings it's a rich, cosy tone!

That looks gorgeous! thanks so much

Like a pp I also like pale or mid blues with brown. I'm considering painting my bedroom a powdery mid-blue shade. I have a mixture of oak and white furniture in there. It'll give me scope if I want to add any darker pieces. I also like the fondant or olive suggestions. Brown is quite versatile Grin

I love Dulux denim drift. Might be a bit passé but goes well with our brown leather sofa

MrBennOfFestiveRoad · 23/11/2018 20:39

Dulux Stonewashed Blue is nice, it’s very similar to Farrow & Ball Stone Blue.

Ketzele · 23/11/2018 20:39

Pale pink also looks good with brown - a dusky millennial pink, not little-girls-bedroom pink.

peachgreen · 23/11/2018 20:56

I like peach / coral with brown as a bit of a variation from blues and greens.
