AIBU to buy an uncomfy couch that looks cool

So i'm looking for a second couch for the living room. Just to fill up the room really. I love the look of 1970s couches but everyone says they'll be uncomfy. Surely i could just get cushions? WAs everyone uncomfy in the 70s?

If it’s a second one, just sit on the comfy first one! I think it looks fine anyway, providing you get some nice squishy cushions.

I love that. It doesn't look too uncomfortable.

Surely they'd be comfortable to sit on just not to lounge around on?

ExplodedPeach · 15/11/2018 12:35

Sofas like that are perfectly comfortable to sit on, they just aren't great for lying/lounging on.

If you'll only use it when you have guests round (and therefore will be sitting rather than slobbing around around anyway) it'll definitely be fine!

Plus it's much better for your back to sit on something like that!

Go for it, I think they look nice. Only uncomfortable to lie on, fine for sitting.

I think it looks really uncomfortable, sorry. For me, with a sofa, it needs to look nice AND be comfy. But I'm aware that personal taste differs. I'd think it looked lovely in the right setting in a magazine picture but not in an actual home.

But I speak as one who loves to lounge rather than sit!

My dad has a very sleek looking sofa that doesn't look comfy at all but actually when you go visit and sit having a cup of tea and a chat it's absolutely fine. He has a comfy chair if you want to curl up and lounge but for socialising his sleek sofa is actually just right I kind of like it as I struggle to get out of too big and squashy ones as I have very short legs.
