Best tips for fitted wardrobes

I've seen a really helpful thread on here before abut lessons learned when designing a new kitchen.

I'd love to hear similar re fitted wardrobes, we'd like some for DS loft bedroom room (he's 6) in an awkward corner where the boiler lives so they would also have to be housed somehow (but when it needs replacing, the boiler will likely move)

Fitted wardrobes are a great space saver.
My advice would be...
Slider robes to stop open doors encroaching on floor space when open.
Do not put fitted units on an outside wall. We did this and the clothes can smell quite musty because wardrobe is so cold and a little damp.

P.s check out Ikea for all sorts of storage solutions inside the wardrobes.

I've inherited some crap ones in ourbedroom in this house. Things i hate about them:

Very dark wood laminate. Makes the whole room dark and hard to get (equally ugly) bedside cabinets to match

Laminate has peeled and cracked where the doors rub past eachother.

Large mirror facing the bed that cannot be removed. I do love catching sight of my twelve chins as i glance up from my book of an evening.

Lots of annoying random little cupboards above head height. Still empty as wtf am i going to put in them?

AND NO DRAWERS. I like drawers.

We had fitted wardrobes put in a couple of years ago. The company had all sorts of clever storage things to go inside but they were expensive; we went to IKEA (as someone else mentioned upthread) and have something that suits our needs, wasn’t too costly and can be changed if necessary.

go to ikea for the carcass and get a chippie to custom build the doors and surrounds so they fit in your space. not only will you save money but the space utilisation in ikea's wardrobes outshines any other fitted wardrobes in the market.
