Do you like stair runners or carpet?

I have a Victorian tiled floor downstairs and want carpet on the landing, as floorboards are pretty poor, so the runner would just be on the stairs. We are painting in Shadow White/ Wimborne White.

We have a runner and love it

Thank you. Do you have carpet or other flooring on the landing?

I'd do a full width carpet - runners are lovely but stair treads tend to gather dust on the edges....

We have hard wood in the hall, runner on the stairs and the same carpet on the landing. I posted a similar question when we were thinking about runners and carpets because I wanted a spotty number Grin. You may be able to find the thread and see what the responses were.

Thank you. I will have a look.

We have a runner. I love how it looks but would never have another one fitted again - the dust that collects either side drives me insane. I have to hoover the stairs every day. Fully carpeted stairs all the way for me in the future! We have hard floors downstairs and carpet upstairs.

Thank you. We also have hard floors (tiled) downstairs and will have carpet upstairs. I currently hoover the stairs very infrequently- too ashamed to say how often- certainly not daily, or weekly.

Tiles get dusty too and I find on a runner it all seems to drift up the stairs- full width carpet will stop it in its tracks 😂

Thanks for the advice. I know that on my wooden floor, all the dust gravitates to the edge.

Yeah, that’s exactly what happens either side of our runner. We don’t even spend much time in our house, and have no pets so it’s not a high traffic area for us but still collects so much dust. When we had a full carpet on our stairs I hoovered them once a week, at the most.

CarrieBlu · 09/11/2018 09:32

Oh, and spiders hide behind the runner and it’s a complete pain in the arse trying to hoover them out from behind it. Little shits.

We had a runner when we moved into our old house. I thought it looked nice initially but it was horrible to clean and as I got used to it I thought it made the hall look too cluttered and narrow. Dust used to gather in the edges of the stairs every day - I'm sure it's still there with a full width carpet but you can't see it! We eventually replaced it with wall to wall stair carpet which I much preferred.

Thank you. This is really useful.

Another vote for full-width stair carpets. I love the look of runners, but OMG the dust. I have hardwood floors throughout the ground floor so completely get the way dust and balls of dog fur accumulate at the edges.

motherofluvlies · 11/11/2018 14:15

I also wen5 for full carpet %%doesnt look as nice but much more practical ..no regrets ...ha£ a Kersaint Kobe natural one down as heavy heavy traffic on ou4 stairs ...

Thanks for all of your help.
