Sliding wardrobe doors

I need to get sliding wardrobe doors for an alcove which can fit either 2 wider doors or 3 narrower ones.

Am I right in thinking that if I chose 3 doors, then the two outside doors would run on the same track so can't go behind or in front of one another? So that means choosing two doors would give me a wider space to access the wardrobe because the doors are wider?

Yes, although you can get 3 track runners but they don't look as nice when closed.
