Leathered granite worktops - anything bad I should know about it?

We're having a new kitchen and are drawn to leathered granite worktops (mostly because I can't be bothered to keep the polished ones shiny!). We'll have an island as well.
We're looking at mid to dark grey colours. What has been your experience? Easy to keep clean? Dirt stuck in the grooves? Staining?
Can the kids write/draw on sheets of paper directly on the worktop?
Thanks!

I’ve never had it but have seen it in showrooms. I have always assumed it would be very difficult to clean due to all the tiny little dents.

What about honed? Totally smooth but not at all shiny.

I have blue pearl shiny granite.

It never looks dull, it always looks shiny. I can't even see if there are crumbs on it because of the markings. I love it!

No experience of leathered, but I've had honed dark grey granite in the past and loved it. Very forgiving. I have now inherited shiny black granite with speckles (star galaxy?) and hate it. The speckles look like crumbs and I'm forever polishing and buffing it.
