Small dark black kitchen - is this a terrible idea?

We’re going to be re-doing our kitchen soon and unfortunately our budget only stretches to ikea. So I went it today for a look around and fell in love with the Lerhyttan kitchen. Only available in black.

But, our kitchen is relatively small at 9m2 and gets very little natural light, although it does have a very high ceiling. We always have the lights on in there at the moment and it’s currently white.

I was kind of thinking we could embrace the darkness of the kitchen and just put in lots of good lights. We’d probably go with the ikea colour scheme of white walls and ‘wooden’ countertops as well. The kitchen already has visible wooden beams (it’s an old house in the country) and we’d probably get wood-look floors (either karndean or wood tiles).

Would this look terrible and depressing though? Or could it look cozy and welcoming like it does in my imagination?

@7days I was responding to brioche who said a ‘gloomy room’ -it’s fair to assume the once ‘gloomy room’ is not a kitchen. So yes, it is possible that there could be a carpet in The Hague Blue room.

IKEA kitchens are fab...I'd embrace the dark!

We had a small, naturally dark kitchen space so for first kitchen we went white to brighten it up. Replaced it later with dark wood and couldn't believe how much bigger it felt. To me the dark cupboards made the kitchen recede.

Give thought to your lighting if you do go dark

Friends have copper accents in their dark kitchen - so different from the usual silver/brass

IKEA Kitchens are great.

This link and the one brioche shared, work well precisely because of the shiny white tiles, IMO.

@WhatJustHappene did you go for the lergyttan in the end? I could have written your OP so just wondering what you decided in the end!

I love love love black matt kitchens - is that a new range from ikea? Lovely warm “wood” looks brilliant with it (chopping boards, shelves, bowls, etc) as do hanging green plants and green glass.
