Sofa fabric - experience with velvet or wool?

Hi!
Talk to me about your velvet sofa, or wool mix sofa.

I’m hearing lots say they were seduced by cotton velvet / polyester velvet in the Loaf or Sofa . com shop, but find it a nightmare to look clean in the home: attracting dust, pet hair and needing to brush it forward. Is this true or are you still happy with velvet?

We are also considering wool as I know it has the highest rub count and it’s very hard wearing, but how do you cope spot cleaning fabrics with kids around? Or do you just budget for professional yearly clean ?

This is a huge purchase for us and I want to get fabric right! Cheers

I have got wool tweed sofas in our big sitting room. We are (generally) past the spill stage. I love them, they are scotchguarded but I don’t think we have ever had to clean anything off them tbh.

We have got pets but they aren’t allowed on the sofas. Three years old now and no need for cleaning, I might vacuum them three times a year if I am feeling energetic.

Must add that wool mix makes me think of bobbling. No bobbling on purewool tweed.

I’ve lived in a house with 100% cotton velvet. This is the worst and the fabric ‘blows’ with any liquid. Avoid.
Nonexperience of the clever velvets with polyester. In the shops they do show you how water runs off them...I imagine they would look tired after a few years and darker would hide stains

I have tweed wool dining chairs, high rub and they wear really well. I also have cotton velvet sofas and they clean up easily too but you need to hoover them as fluff and light colours stick to them. I have Cadbury purple colour.

Polyester velvets can go flat.
