Did you pay before fitting, after the job was completed or part before/part after? Just wanting to get a feel for what is usual...

Paid for carpet at the shop in full then paid fitters on the day in cash.

Bought carpet online (underlay and vinyl too) got several fitters round to quote (whole house job) and went with the one we felt most confident with. He invoices us (7 day terms) we paid by bank transfer.
Saved over just over half on what carpetright and Tapi quotes us for identical carpet/underlay/vinyl

We did pay in advance for the floor levelling compound as it was quite a big area and he had to order the stuff specially so we thought it showed faith by paying up front. From what I've seen Carpet fitters are the lowest paid of all the trades

Fully paid and then had to wait about a month for it to be fitted 🙄

Soontobe60 · 29/09/2018 22:26

Paid up front from John Lewis.

Paid Tapi guy who came to house for carpet. Then paid fitters on the day.

MirandaWest · 29/09/2018 22:29

Used a local company. Carpets were fitted at two different times. Paid for each on the day (or possibly day after) each were fitted

Si1ver · 29/09/2018 22:30

Paid a 50% deposit in the shop and the balance on the day.

PickAChew · 29/09/2018 22:31

Another one who paid beforehand with John Lewis.

Regional chain - shop advertises free fitting - but basically takes the fitting cost off the carpet price and then you pay the fitters in cash on the day they show up.

Think we made their morning with a pretty much square room completely empty of furniture they ain't seen the ridiculous shapes in the rest of the rooms in the house

Babymamamama · 03/10/2018 09:53

I paid a deposit of about 15 percent then the balance on completion. This was with a nice local business though not big awful chain...
