Sofa to make room look bigger (to sell house!)

Hi all,

We are trying to sell our house. I'm pregnant and due in February so it's a bit of a necessity! We've had lots of viewings but no offers since the last one fell through. We have reduced the price but there are a few things I'd like to do to get it looking it's best.

We don't have a big sitting room. Our sofa is huge and dark brown leather so it really dominates the room and makes it look smaller than it is. So we would like to replace it with something lighter and less heavy. We have two grey mid century style chairs from Ikea (you know the ones!) so it would need to go with those. We would ideally like to spend less than £400 on a sofa and it needs to be a two seater.

I've looked at Argos, IKEA (one possible), Habitat, Wayfairer, eBay, DFS but no joy. Any other ideas of where we could look for a decent but cheap sofa please? TIA

I should add - our carpet is sadly a light green colour, courtesy of previous owners.

Dwell? They’re usually having a sale and they do two seaters.

How about a second hand one? You can sell it on after you move house.

yeah ok- I'd have a look on eBay and also Facebook marketplace is really good now. you can stick in a search term and a radius and it'll show things that match on any selling group in that area

Consider scouring your local charity shops. We got a fab 2 seater, since we have stopped spending lots on them thanks a bunch, Spongecat.

If it isn't the ideal design, chuck the right coloured throw over it, you hopefully won't have to live with it very long.

SofaSofa have some mid century style sofas that would coordinate with your chairs. I looked at them but they are too small for my space. The ranges are Sofia, Lucca and Jacob.

IKEA could be worth another look through or visit . They do quite a few that are good for space saving and also giving the illusion of a bigger room (narrower arms, sofa not as deep and fairly low).

I had a great experience with www.s2sofas.co.uk. You can ask about breaking up the sets. They’re on eBay but offer a discount if you pay direct.
Tub sofas are v small footprint and often on sale for offices. In some ways you need a small sofa any colour with a throw over so focus on that
