Should I be brave or continue to play it safe?

Need your honest opinions please! Smile

Have a new grey corner sofa.

Want to purchase a couple of egg chairs too and was thinking of getting them in mustard for a pop of colour and then use mustard as a contrast colour for cushions and throws on sofa...

Should I be brave and go for it or play it safe and go for grey egg chairs instead?

Have attached photos - the pic of the mustard egg chair online looks more lime green but I do have the mustard swatch which is mustard as opposed to lime green!

Thanks!

Mustard. It's lovely

AwaywiththePharaohs · 21/09/2018 09:51

Love the chair and Love the colour. But mustard is very now and I think I might regret it when it starts to date.
Sorry Op but I'd play safe with mustard accessories.

LemonysSnicket · 21/09/2018 09:54

I'd do orange

keepingitsimple · 21/09/2018 10:07

I love the mustard! Be brave OP - as my 15 year old would say, YOLO and you can always replace the chairs when mustard goes out of fashion ...

FoxyBoxter · 21/09/2018 10:14

Thank you, all.

Good advice keepingitsimple - I think I need to be brave when it comes to home furnishings for once in my life and enjoy having something that is very now. The chairs themselves might not be so now in a few years (although are a design classic) and I'm not afraid to change them for something more now when the time comes (...as long as that's not next month!) Not really an answer but could I ask where you got your grey sofa from? Love that and the footstool Grin

YeTalkShiteHen · 21/09/2018 14:28

I like it.

FoxyBoxter · 21/09/2018 16:03

The chair shape won't date but the colour might. Not quite yet though, and you can get them recovered eventually. I am sitting looking at a G-Plan 'Blofeld' 6250 that was my aunt's and is my favourite possession. I'm about to get it recovered.

FoxyBoxter · 21/09/2018 16:12

SymphonyofShadows - just looked it up - what colour is it presently and what colour are you going for now? I kind of know that the mustard I'm thinking of will eventually date and that's probably making me waiver and think about playing it safe but I just think for once I should just go for it. If it dates, the option to recover is there as you suggest or we get rid and replace....

Grey and mustard is everywhere. It's not bring brave at all. Brave would be stripes, or lime green or screaming pink or something.

keepingbees · 21/09/2018 16:24

They look great together, but I would worry of tying myself into a colour scheme. I would get grey chairs and go for mustard with throws, cushions, even wallpaper.

Foxy, it's a dark brown brocade. Original fabric, was kept for best. I have the matching armchair that was very low so I've added hairpin short legs. I'm going for a dark grey boiled wool but with jewel coloured buttons as I have a purple suede sofa and a dark teal velvet one coming, the buttons should hopefully tie it all in.

CloudCaptain · 21/09/2018 17:47

I agree grey and mustard was everywhere last year.
whispers I think grey is on the outs now too.

FoxyBoxter · 21/09/2018 17:53

Ooooh CloudCaptain What colour is in this year???? We have 14 days to approve new sofa so if you could let me know what colour to go for that would be really helpful. I can then send this one back and reorder.

Symphony, your planned reupholstery sounds lovely. It's great when you have good quality furniture that can be updated to keep in with current fashion trends.

I wouldn’t do grey chairs as well as grey sofa - will look too office like. Is there a blue/ purple for the chair? That would work with mustard. How light is the room and which way does it face?

My parents had an egg chair which was in a browny/ grey colour ( think tweed effect) which went with almost every environment it was thrown in.

I go against the grain for mumsnet though - I have a Ro chair in pink which is lovely.

Apart from things that are so obviously hideously dated like swirly pattern carpets or orange pine furniture, I really don't worry or care what is "on trend" or "now". As long as you like it, who cares if it's trendy or not? Confused

Fwiw, I'm about to decorate my living room in blue, grey and yellow which is apparently a bit "last year" but who cares? As long as the person (or people) living in it like it, what does it matter what anyone else thinks?

RagamuffinCat · 22/09/2018 07:13

I would go for the mustard or another bright colour. Also, I love your sofa and footstool :)

bouncydog · 22/09/2018 21:32

We’ve just had our 20 year old sofa workshop sofas reupholstered in purple velvet! Have also had striped cushions made to break up the purple. Not everyone’s choice, but you only live once! We can always change the seat cushions and back cushions to a different colour when we get fed up!

SymphonyofShadows · 23/09/2018 10:06

Swirly patterned carpets are now being turned into rugs and adored by the MC crowd. Step too far for me though.

PlateOfBiscuits · 23/09/2018 10:14

Green is supposed to be coming in but I think grey will still be around for a while! Go for it @FoxyBoxter

Fishforclues · 23/09/2018 19:14

Grey and mustard much nicer than grey grey and grey. Do it. Life's too short to avoid everything that's 'in' in case it's about to go 'out'.
