I have 2 dc. 7 yo boy and 4 yo girl. Im seperating the bunks tomorrow and putting them on either end of the room. Hoping to turn one room into 2 seperate spaces. Ds wants a lego/ science/space/ around the world theme. Dd wants pink and glitter. Its a rented house. So no painting building walls etc. I have wall paper samples, cardboard tonnes of craft supplys and a non existent budget. Pintrest isnt helping. Can anyone suggest any quivk diy decoration pieces.

I have just spent the best part of an hour trying my hand at crayon art to get abnice galaxy canvas and a watercolour type canvas. It didnt work out so well, i did manage to get crayon all iver my living room though. Thanks in advance.

for the pink glitter end, you could get a canopy like this for the bed: www.amazon.co.uk/Express%C2%AE-Pink-Romantic-Mosquito-Canopy/dp/B00MW7KYI2?tag=mumsnetforum-21 and then get her a custom wall sticker in pink saying her name ( www.happywallz.co.uk/nursery-wall-decals/personalised-name-sticker-with-butterflies-and-fairy.html ) add a pink bedspread and fluffy pillows.

for your ds, you could get a wall sticker like this ( www.happywallz.co.uk/nursery-wall-decals/flaming-boys-name-decal.html ) then normal coloured stick on stars ( www.ebay.co.uk/i/232829504069?chn=ps&var=532344362411 ) and these could go across the whole ceiling, because they are unisex. here are some space wall stickers that you could put up, another option is lego posters. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162599337091?rmvSB=true

all the best!

I have some glow in the dark stars and planets ... pm me and I can post them to you

I would get a roll of lining paper and cut this to stick on the wall you could make two collages one space one princess

Love the stickers. Have added them to watch list for payday which feels like a lifetime away. I forgot i had bought dd a canopy so will throw that up. I have also got her baby blanket which is quite big and will add to bed. I bought ds a star blanket when i got dds canopy. I think i have some pink wool from easter i can make tassles with for dd.
Thank you flying that is so kind. I like the lining paper idea but im no good at art. I can make anything you want out of a cardboard box but drawing/ painting colouring is not my thing.

Thank you all. Please feel free to keep the ideas coming. Will be atleast 2 years before we manage to move out of this house and i really want them to have their own spaces.
Next month i plan to add a curtain to the middle of the room with a tension rod.

Thank you all again.

What about using heavy duty cardboard tubes from a carpet shop to construct something, maybe around the beds four poster bed style - silver spray paint for the boy to look like scaffolding, pointy finials and gauzy curtains for the girl? Glow in the dark stars all over the ceiling!

Love the idea of a 4 poster bed. Will swomg by the local carpet shop on the way to work. Cant remember what the beds look like as single but will check thwm once they are seperated. See if they can be attached some how. Im sure dh could find a way. I have lots of spray paint from previous projects. I have a tonne of fabric too. Would make him an awesome little den bed.
I have borrowed a sewing machine to make up a few cushions. And have dug out all the random battery powered fairy lights to make a reading bench using the kallax style towers we have. Hoping to lay one on its side and decorate with lights and the elevnty billion cushions we have from our old sofa.

Any ideas on what i could do with the bag of broken crayons i have?
Thanks again.

Could you paint their beds and chest of drawers if wooden in their chosen theme? With nice duvet cover etc. And make a reading nook if room with cardboard box den decorated in theme, with books and a themed cushion/blanket? All quite changeable and can be done whilst keeping existing decor?

www.muminthemadhouse.com/melted-crayon-art/

haven't tried it mind but looks amazing!
Google melted crayon art.

Twilliow I tried something similar yesterday. Looks like a box of crayons exploded although kids were impressed.
They don't have drawers in their room. They are in our room.
Their room used to be two box rooms but have been turned into one. So is quite small. We have 2 beds now and 5 cube storage units for toys. That leaves enough space to walk to beds and sit and play. I put one unit on its side to create a bench and have added cushions.
Had to stop half way through as had to take DD to the hospital. so will continue tomorrow.
Both children love the change. And are excited for me to decorate.

We used some strong chest of drawers and a 4x4 beam screwed to the wall to make a frame to support the bed divan - works brilliantly as you have the storage under but the bed isn't too high. You could juggle the space below to make cubbies or a den depending on the size of the chest of srawers.
