F&B - first coat on and .....

It looks like this. I'm hoping with the 2nd coat it'll be better?!! 🙈

It has to look spot on, as DH told me to wait until he can do it, so I went ahead & started it myself Grin

I finished this coat about 7.30 this evening so I'm not going to do 2nd coat until the morning so giving plenty of time for this coat to dry, got enough paint for a 3rd coat if need be. I'm praying it'll look great or DH will be saying 'told you to wait!' Grrr

What colour was underneath?

youvegottobekidding · 14/09/2018 21:50

Just white emulsion. I've just gone over it again & it looks better, but as I suspected it'll need a 3rd coat but that will be tomorrow, panic over, it should look fine after the 3rd coat......!

F&B darks are usually like this. You should be alright after one more coat.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 14/09/2018 22:21

It will be okay. My first coat looked dreadful. I was worried I'd have to buy another tin but the second coat went on like a dream and it has given the most beautiful finish out of any paint I've ever used Smile

Second coat properly dry will look perfect.

What colour did you use OP? I'm contemplating Hague blue which is a dark navy. Is this downpipe?

WhatIsThisTomfoolery · 14/09/2018 23:47

You don't use a white undercoat on a strong colour though, hence you are now struggling

You need a grey undercoat. Works as a platform for the colour so it doesn't need 3 coats and looks streak free and not faded!

Too late now though

Ohyesiam · 14/09/2018 23:49

railings?

youvegottobekidding · 15/09/2018 08:42

Its stiffkey blue. This is what it looks like this morning, still just a 2nd coat but it needs a 3rd coat. I love the colour.

That's very much better.

Third coat should nail it.

youvegottobekidding · 15/09/2018 11:37

3rd coat done & it looks great! Just the masking tape to come off, so I'm not celebrating yet, I don't anticipate perfect edges, however if they are near as, that will do it for me.

Looks great 😀

That colour looks great. Well done!

FabulousTomatoes · 15/09/2018 11:41

Stiffkey is a gorgeous colour Smile
We use a lot of F&B dark paint and they always need 3 coats. I think last time we did the first two in a Valspar colour match and then finished off the last coat in original F&B! Grin

PlateOfBiscuits · 15/09/2018 11:42

I recommend a lip brush (like for make up) to help you sort the edges if the masking tape pulls any tiny bits off.

Hopefully you haven’t got any bleeds, but if you do you can use the same brush with the other colour to go over them. Might need a few goes as it’s much lighter though!

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 15/09/2018 11:42

That's lovely!

Tell your DH, Mumsnet says so.

youvegottobekidding · 15/09/2018 11:59

Thanks everyone & great tip about the lip brush Smile

Masking tape?

Should be peeled off when paint is still wet not dried or it will flake

RagamuffinCat · 15/09/2018 17:46

That is so beautiful!
