Help me redecorate - Brown leather sofa!

Please MN is there a way of redecorating my living room to bring it up to date, around a chocolate brown leather sofa? I know they are passé but it is comfy, good quality and a classic design. I need to keep piano in the room which is dark wood. The rest of the furniture is light oak and could be changed. The room is painted almond white with a light teal carpet. I am looking to update it and everything seems to be grey at the moment but I can't see grey going with brown leather.
Any brainwaves welcome.

when you say 'redecorate' do you mean the walls or the carpets as well?

I think very pale grey walls would work with dark brown- but I mean VERY pale grey walls.

That would tone with your carpet.

The thing is, do what YOU like. Fads come and go. I remember avocado bathrooms and shag pile rugs. Everything has its day- it keeps the economy going to change fashions! You don't have to be a sheep.

I think brown leather and darker wood look good with grey/green colours, teal and maybe a bit of red. This kind of palette but not necessarily that style- just illustrating some possible colours.

Similar colours here. A bit of grey works well with that colour palette too

Like you I wanted to update but not replace the sofas, I have cream walls and carpet and chestnut brown leather sofas, light wood furniture.

I went for the dark teal/petrol blue colour thats around a lot at the moment . I got curtains/throws/cushions/ornaments in the teal. I also got a persian-type rug in teal and reddy browns. I am really pleased with it.

Guess depends what type of teal your carpet is whether it would go.

I think you could get some geometric cushions in yellow/teal/grey with throw in a light biscuit/beige and some matching prints in a group on the wall behind the sofa. If you have an armchair go for a yellow throw there with teal geometric cushion. If you want to be more dramatic do feature wall in dark teal with off white picture frames. This would look good with yellow/mustard curtains and yellow/ teal candles/ accessories.

The girl- I love that colour palette. I definitely want more colour and that could work with the existing carpet thanks.

Following a recent house move; I have a 7yr old brown leather sofa in my snug - it was my main sofa in the living room in my old house and is still immaculate so I'm making sure I decorate to accommodate it.
I have painted the walls F&B Skimming Stone, have 'natural' coloured raw silk effect curtains and also natural velvety (Laura Ashley 'Nigella') cushions on the sofa. Have a 'Twist" flush light fitting from Next (www.next.co.uk/x67508s3) which is gorgeous. It's a very calm and inviting room.
The carpet is thick stripes of brown, cream and thin black stripes. Again; previous owners choice, not my cup of tea but excellent condition and looks fine.
