Options for privacy for very large window

So the window is 3m wide. UPVC. We need privacy but the only affordable option I can see is aluminium Venetian blinds or sheer voile curtains. What am I missing?

How about a can off the glass frosting spray and do an etched glass design on half the window?

Shelley54 · 16/09/2018 08:08

Depends on the window but you can buy roller blinds that are voile-like, or others that you can see out of but can’t be seen through from the outside. These might be an option?

Mrsramsayscat · 19/09/2018 11:21

If you can afford it, blinds which sit at the bottom and roll upwards are great.

WakeUpSlow · 24/09/2018 14:42

@MrsRamsayCat where do you get the blinds that go upwards? Sounds perfect for my bedroom window which is floor to ceiling for some unknown reason.

PanannyPanoo · 24/09/2018 14:46

Perfect fit blinds fit into the upvc frame and can be fitted to pull upwards. We have blackout ones in the bedroom and keep them pulled half way up as we are on a bus route.

They are great. I think there are a couple of companies that do similar designs

WakeUpSlow · 24/09/2018 18:43

Thanks they look great.

A house near me has those wooden shutters, it's solid at the bottom and is slatted at the top.

Thegirlisnotright · 25/09/2018 01:02

Thanks for suggestions. The window is too big for perfect fit or bottom up blinds- i’ve looked on a few sites. It’s too big for shutters from online places too I think. Has anyone used window films?

I was just coming on to say window films. We are renting a house with huge Windows and no curtain rail, I don't mind buying curtains but I wasn't buying and putting up a huge curtain rail. I was really surprised how decent the window film has been. It really does just stick on with static, ours has been on six months.

Thegirlisnotright · 25/09/2018 19:10

Where did you get yours from pumkin?

Window films are fab!!! We’ve Lways used purlfrost - easy to fit and look brilliant!

pumkinspicetime · 25/09/2018 20:27

We used rabitgoo from Amazon.com

CaptSkippy · 25/09/2018 22:03

Large plants on the window sil can also make it harder for neighbors/passersby to see through. I second the film aswell. It's a really budget friendly option.

missbattenburg · 26/09/2018 16:17

Just noticed this thread and wanted to say we've used purlfrost to frost the bottom halves of some of our windows to increase privacy and prevent the dogs barking.

They were ridiculously easy to apply and very effective. They look like a professional job and the only issue we've had is with the bedroom windows where condensation builds up - the film has developed a kind of watermark.

However, for the relatively low cost and ease to apply it is a pretty easy job to just change them out when this happens.

amazonianwoman · 28/09/2018 20:32

Frostbrite window film here is excellent. They also have a range of patterned window film.

wishingitwasfriday · 30/09/2018 16:51

We've used window film on our current house, which has a large bay window at the front. We used in on the bottom half and it's been great. We use the room so much more now as we don't feel like we're being watched. Definitely recommend it!

pumkinspicetime · 30/09/2018 17:26

Just wanted to add we also only did bottom third of windows, it gave enough privacy.

beanaseireann · 03/10/2018 21:17

Luxaflex do the bottom up blinds

MumUnderTheMoon · 03/10/2018 22:49

I used frosted stick back plastic on the lower half of my living room window. And in the bathroom I have shelves which run across the window and I put candles and plants on them.

Thegirlisnotright · 03/10/2018 22:49

Thank you everyone. I have ordered some window film as a solution for now. If I don’t like it I might order something else in time.

Just fit two wooden venetian blinds as the 3m width is too long. I have the same problem. Two 1.5m blinds!
