How would you arrange this room?

I want to get a sofa in here but also want the option of extending the table if necessary. TV has to stay where it is.

Punch Bag will go up to DS1's bedrooom.

It’s a little hard to tell but here the two things I would try:

Moving the table into the space towards the window.

Turning the table round so it’s horizontal to the room. It might mean you can only have one door open but it would give you more floor space.

Like this. Probably tilt the sofa a bit so it’s facing the TV/fireplace a bit more and you can put the tall shelving unit in the corner behind it/beside it.

I definitely need to think about moving the bookcase thing...

I really like both doors open as it brings light into the hall.

Turn the table by 90 degrees and put it along the back of a sofa.

It’s a tricky room. If you got a small sofa you could turn the table perpendicular to how it is now and have the sofa between the small window to the right of the fireplace and the large window where the table is now. Not sure if that makes sense?

ApolloandDaphne · 03/09/2018 17:47

Sofa facing the fireplace.

Table behind sofa.

WipsGlitter · 03/09/2018 17:51

Hmmm table behind the sofa... do you mean edge to edge so no chairs on one side just right against the sofa??

Bit like this?

I would put table in the corner to the side of the door, and have it across the room. I would put a big rug in front of the fireplace so that is the seating area, sofa by the rug somewhere.

PrimalLass · 03/09/2018 20:44

Yes like that - thanks for the diagram! Or like a console table.

Ooh I like that first photo primal. It’s very like OPs room.

PrimalLass · 03/09/2018 23:55

I think it would work

PrimalLass · 03/09/2018 23:56

I would go for a corner sofa that extends towards the right hand side of the fireplace

WipsGlitter · 04/09/2018 07:27

I'm not sure the room is big enough to do that!

MairzyDoats · 04/09/2018 07:32

Do you absolutely have to have that table? I'd go for a smaller one that extends and tuck it in the corner. It's a lovely room, I think you're just trying to get too much in there. Can you eat in the kitchen?

PickAChew · 04/09/2018 07:35

How big is it? My parents have a room about 17' square, including alcove space, and have that sort of arrangement.

Also is it a dining room, or a dual purpose room? If a dining room, then the table can be the focus of the room and a sofa facing the table. If dual purpose and it also has to be your main living room, then zoned, like in the pictures, works best.

wowfudge · 04/09/2018 07:59

It look a lovely room. Can you not post a sketch of the floorplan showing where the windows and doors are and also say what the dimensions are?

WipsGlitter · 04/09/2018 08:19

It's generally a dining room / where DS plays his x box. But we lit the fire last winter and it was really nice but uncomfortable sitting on the dining chairs!!

I'd like it to be a sort of 'family room'. We have another sitting room and a dining area in the kitchen.
