Storage in utility room

I have a utility room that is basically a corridor with worktop over the washer/dryer.

I need to use the space better and was thinking about getting a narrow free-standing shelf unit to sit on top of the worktop (have a maiden above, so can't easily fit higher shelves/cupboard.

Does this sound like a bad idea? What would you do? Any links to potentially suitable things would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - I think billy bookcases will be too deep. Ideally want depth of 10-15cm for Kilner jars etc - and probably only 1-2 shelves.

I have this on top of one of my worktops to take kilner jars (plum gin's brewing on there at the mo), tea caddy, teapots, jam jars, radio, kettle etc, and it's great for hanging fairy lighta on too. It's a wooden shoe rack from Argos, if you cba clicking the link.

We have the bigger version of this in our bathroom - this is only 12cm deep

You could tip it on it's side (without the door on) and lie across the worktop

If you are not wanting a 'finished' look you could buy some planks of wood and rest them on something at either end?

Mine are 124cm high and contain recycling bins, bin liners, pegs, kitchen roll, lunch boxes, washing powder etc. You can customise it shelf wise and you can opt for 30cm deep or 50cm deep and different heights depending which side frame you buy.

I have a pantry lined with a huge Ivar unit that holds everything as we buy in bulk from Costco.

A cd shelving unit would probably be about 10cm deep?

Thanks palmer - I think that's too wide for me, I need 15cm ish depth unfortunately

For 15cm deep in another part of our house we went for those metal uprights that allow brackets to be slotted in anywhere and then the conti board (melamine) shelves on top.

this sort of thing we have it in both the shed and the garage.

That way you can adjust the height for your jars.

When I suggested IKEA I was thinking of their utility room stuff, not Billy bookcases. They also have hall furniture, some of which may be suitable.
