Where to get decent priced beds?

I've just moved into a shithole of a rental property with a horrible old divan and lumpy mattress.

I don't have much money but if I'm going to be miserable here I want to be miserable in a bed that I can sleep in. Looked on FB groups and Gumtree but they seem to be very expensive even for second hand and 90% are collect only or bed frame only.

Is there a miracle website out there? Looking to spend around £60-70.

Needs to have a headboard and preferably under bed storage / empty space.

Thanks in advance!! :)

Freecycle?

imadumbass · 02/09/2018 22:53

Thanks, I looked on there too but it's almost completely unused with only been about 5 posts in the past month. :(

any one used wowcher? for beds

imadumbass · 02/09/2018 22:56

I had a look at Wowcher and Groupon but it was really frustrating when the prices were good but it always turned out that's without a mattress and adding one added £100 or so on top 🤐😅

I'd say a local independent bed shop will be your best bet. Or eBay.

IKEA?

BlueUggs · 05/09/2018 23:16

I've bought beds and mattresses from groupon. The bed I bought was fine.

We got our beds from Sainsbury's in the sale for less than that when they still sold beds. Exclusive mattress. Metal bed frame.
Wayfair? Eg this one?

One to avoid with a very very very wide berth - Bensons.

Bought a divan from them end of April... by end of August the base has totally collapsed down one side and I'm sleeping on the floor to try to stop any further damage and will they do anything? Will they shite? No money to buy a new bed base so we're completely stuck.

Their FB page is shocking - even by standards of shocking customer service generally.

Ikea do very good mattresses for the money in my opinion - you could go and test them in store if you have an ikea near you, and check that the ones around your budget are better than what you already have? There's no point in wasting your money on something that won't last or isn't very good to start with!

We have some Ikea Hovag mattresses (£190 for a double), but for the price they're well worth it in my opinion if you can wait?

Could you get a mattress (Ikea ones will fit in some cars depending on car size as they are packaged in a vacuum roll type way), and just have it on the floor for now? Then get a frame as funds allow?

The kids have ikea tarva bed frames and they are very solid so far, although we only have those in a single size... (£110 for a double)

Or if you are handy you could get a mattress and make yourself a pallet bed frame for now? You can usually find pallets cheaply or free locally?

FWIW we've had a mattress on the floor for 6+ years while the kids have been little. The kids now have bed frames but at the moment a bed frame for us is very low priority!

Ebay?

Lwmommy · 13/09/2018 18:14

Your chances of getting a bedframe and mattress for a total £60-70 are low. Could you get a new mattress for the existing divan base?

ballseditupforever · 14/09/2018 19:29

You need to get a secondhand one. Keep looking in gumtree and be choosy. We bought all of our kids beds on eBay / gumtree for a fraction of the new cost. Two came with mattresses that looked brand new. You just have to take your time.

ballseditupforever · 14/09/2018 19:30

Also maybe out an appeal on a local Facebook group. Beds are the sort of things people need rid of in a hurry and you might find someone will deliver it for you in your budget too.
