Picture rail - darker colour on top?

I need to do something in my bedroom to make it feel a little more homely. It's a huge size with very high ceilings (Victorian terrace) currently painted white with very neutral furniture.

I do like the neutral but just feel it's a little too stark at the moment so I was thinking about putting a picture rail up but with a darker colour on top.

Has anyone done this and willing to share photos? Or any ideas what colours might look good?

I’ve always done the opposite - colour below the picture rail, white above.

I think darker at the top looks good if there is panelling on the lower half but not just with a rail.
