Hi all

I brought some wilko paint to do my room with and a few days after I noticed a chemically smell. Worse when hot in the room. Called wilko and they said they it's possibly a bacterial issue and advised to wash down walls with a weak bleach solution and then repaint.

Anyone come across this and managed to get rid of it? Other half things it doesn't smell as bad as before but I am now worried it won't go after googling it.

Apparently there is no healthy and safety risk to it...

There has been a big thing recently with Valspar paint, something was left out of the manufacturing process which causes the paint to smell

They have been offering compensation, so if this has happened as well with Wilkos I think they need to do the same. At least offer a refund on the paint.

But usually it will take lots of complaints before a company will act

Yes, I had this problem with Valspar paint. The smell intensified as the summer progressed. I had to redecorate in the end but Valspar compensated me after first of all denying it was the fault of the paint and blamed the walls in my bedroom for having bacteria that somehow got into the paint!!!

We had an issue with dulux paint from B&Q (apparently the duff stuff was only delivered there), smelled of box or cat wee or something but weirdly improved with heat. We ended up having to paint over with zinsser primer stuff and then with the same colour dulux but from a different shop. Not had an issue since.
