Can you talk me through the pros and cons of vertical side by side door openings vs the draw and door combination please? Having our kitchen refurbished and I want to avoid making an expensive mistake!
Thank you Smile

Ooh good timing! We are going for the drawer and door combo after always having the other style. We have had look and just prefer the look and function.

StorminaBcup · 21/07/2018 19:19

Ooh great, a reply Grin

What's made you switch from one style to the other? Are the drawers better for storing more in compared the door version? It's our first time so we're clueless!

I have the two door style and my MIL has the other style with the draws. She hates hers says the drawers are a bit small and it all feels a bit cramped.

I love mine its great the freezer side has shelves deep draws door units the ice trays and small ice holder tray which is great for lollys and ice.

ElspethFlashman · 21/07/2018 19:26

We have a door and drawer combo. Somebody pointed out to me that with the two skinny doors, you'll never be able to lie a pizza box down flat in the freezer.

I mean, FUCK THAT!

So the drawers are better for wide things like that. Also big things like frozen turkeys at Christmas.

I looove mine.

Be warned though, it's huge. Its a bloody monolith and impossible to ignore. I don't care though.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 21/07/2018 20:15

The ones we are looking at have massive sturdy drawers. I find after having several side by side styles, the drawers are prone to breaking and sticking. I can’t wait to buy it but we are buying a new house and will wait so it’s delivered there.

StorminaBcup · 21/07/2018 20:21

ElspethFlashman you have just sold it! I knew there'd be a reason we'd want the drawers.

Thanks for all the replies, you're all marvellous Smile

I can lie a pizza flat in mine and mines a two door. Confused

StorminaBcup · 21/07/2018 21:33

Oh Confused

Can I ask what width yours is MrsMotherHen if you don't mind? Our kitchen will fit a 90 - 92cm, will that be the difference?

Ah @ElspethFlashman I've literally just chosen a two door one (not bought it yet though) and never even thought about freezing pizzas. 😕

We have double door fridge and freezer drawers below. I love it, so easy to see everything in the fridge (so can keep track of what you have) and to unload shopping.

The only downside is the bottom freezer drawer is quite deep so small stuff can get lost at the bottom - but I've bought a couple of plastic tubs about 30x20cm which fit into the drawer and hold any small bits.

StorminaBcup · 22/07/2018 18:33

We went to view some this afternoon and we've gone for option C! I decided the drawer option would result in a lot of faffing around rummaging for things that had slipped to bottom of it and the side by side looked a bit narrow (plus the one we viewed had an ice dispensing unit that took up half the freezer space). Plus you can definitely fit a pizza in this one, I reckon maybe 4 if they're stacked one on top of the other Star

Thanks for all of your replies Smile

We have a side by side which I love. We previously had a chest freezer and small fridge/freezer.

I managed to fit a giant turkey in at Christmas and can lay pizza boxes down flat (the sort of frozen pizza from the supermarket).

It is a bit more Tetris like when loading it and the shelves in the freezer are boxy so don't have the same flexibility for odd shapes.

Since having this freezer I haven't lost anything in there like I would with my old freezer, everything is more organised and can see it at a glance. Obviously my old freezer wasn't a drawer American freezer but a chest, however I do think that I would have the same issues with two deep drawers (my current freezer side has a larger capacity than my chest freezer so assume most drawer style freezers would be the same).

AnotherGin · 22/07/2018 18:49

@StorminaBcup Can I be really nosy and ask what freezer that is? It looks lovely although might be too big for my kitchen.

StorminaBcup · 22/07/2018 20:18

Of course - here's the link @AnotherGin

@InterstellarSleepingElla we currently have a built in fridge and separate built in freezer for a family of 4 so anything beyond this will be a huge improvement! The one linked above is essentially the same as a side-by-side but I just prefer the configuration. They are all enormous though!

Why would it matter if had to go in sideways if the pizza is already frozen?

AnotherGin · 22/07/2018 21:29

Thanks @StorminaBcup. Good choice! I love it but sadly it's not going to fit through my front door.

They take the doors off for delivery so it can fit through front doors
