We're about to have a new kitchen. Units are lamp room grey on the bottom and tall units, white/alabaster on the top.

The room will be an L shape with kitchen being knocked through into living room to make a large kitchen diner. Living room is currently Dulux sulphur yellow. It will need repainting as we are knocking a wall down.

What colour to paint? The rooms are north facing so the yellow looks really nice but would be too much in kitchen as well I think (although there won't be that much wall to see.

Options are

  • new colour entirely
  • keep the yellow and paint back wall a light/white colour which will be carried into the kitchen
  • paint back wall of kitchen yellow and the rest white.

But which white!

We've had the yellow for about 6 years before it became EVERYWHERE so I'd quite like to have something different now. But please not teal blue. I love the colour but, again, I can't go into someone's house these days without seeing it.

Before reading your post about wanting a change from yellow that's what I would've suggested!

There are some nice sage/ punchy vintage style greens wall colours around, or maybe just a light grey, with accents of colour using accessories instead of a bold wall colour? Grey is quite metamorphic in different lights which you can use to your advantage.

Any colour could be an accent so you could go with punchy yellows/ purples etc., or instead go with a scheme of several pastel shaded accessories dotted around which might look quite nice and be a little lighter than your sulphur yellow at the moment - that would be quite a big change if that's what you're looking for?

I love those vintage green but keep reading they don't look great in North facing rooms - although there is a small window to the east

I really love arsenic. Although it makes me think slightly more of bathrooms.

Maybe breakfast room green.
