How would you decorate this hallway

..apart from a coat cull!

I was thinking of putting in a radiator cover and painting the bottom half of the stairs under the border, perhaps in a navy blue? I would love to change the carpet as it shows all the dirt but that may be a longer term thing and we rent so don't want to spend a fortune.

Personally I'd take the rail down, find a patterned wallpaper and do it going up the stairs.
Furniture etc would depend on the style of wallpaper x

It's a rented house so don't want to spend a lot of money but just make it look a bit nicer so nothing to difficult!! Xx

Ok, so you just want to paint?

I'd go for a light colour, maybe on just one wall.... either going up the stairs and or down the hallway.
Maybe a coat stand rather then hooks? Or if you can put the hooks else where, it will make the entrance feel a lot bigger.

Yes I was only going to paint the bottom half as doing the top would be quite a big job because of landing going so high and would need ladders etc! I am not sure if a coat stand would fit as it would probably block more space. We do have a porch but it has windows on every side so not ideal to hang coats and I am not sure where else they could go tbh!

I hate radiator covers. Your idea of painting below the dado a dark blue is a good one I think.

I like the idea of below the dado darker, great with kids about too. If you want more room as you say a coat cull will help, have you looked at having an IKEA shoe storage cupboard or similar it would mean they are away but tidy and gives more space too. I had a rad cover in my hall and wouldn't do it again as they take up quite a bit of room. In the porch is there a reason you can't cover one window ( temp covering as you rent and then have a coat rack above the window or is it more a space issue? We are doing this in our new house as the actual hallway at ours makes your look like the Albert hall .
