Paint colour for hall & stair carpet recommendations

I have a North East facing hallway with a wooden floor. I am going to get new stair carpet soon and get the hall, stairs and landing painted.

The walls are currently some shade of cream and the carpet a non-descript oaty colour.

I would love your suggestions for colour for both. Please can you inspire me with your ideas!

(There's a turn on the stairs so I think I have to stick to plainish carpet).

Have you decorated recently and don't mind sharing please? Any hallway colours for flooring and walls are welcome.

I had the same problem. All carpets seemed to be neutral or grey and I wanted something a bit different. Went for a blue/green stair carpet but succumbed to a very pale grey for the walls and white for all woodwork with silver accessories. Pleased with it. Good luck with yours.

Thank you, yours sounds lovely highwoodwitch

I've picked some right clangers over the years - colours that looked ok painted in a small test patch at odd intervals around the place but then looked awful when covering whole walls and areas!

That's why I am seeking advice. I've to get a painter in to do the work so I am scared of making a bad choice as it'll cost too much to rectify!

We have cooking apple green from F&B below dado rail and strong white above works really well in N facing hardly any light hall Smile as the green is pale enough/but has enough depth to be light and warm.. (painted it this way a few years ago and will re-paint the same as liek it so much!)

for stair carpet not there yet - am considering spotty as would work better with a turn than stripes- although these guys have some great patterns (just a bit more than my budget)

have ripped up teh hideous oatmeal as preferr teh knackered floor boards..

I have North facing hall window with dark parquet floor. Originally the stair carpet was an oaty colour with F&B string on the walls.

I replaced the carpet with what I thought was a neutral beige (DH did not like the stripy jewel colours I wanted), however when the carpet was down it looked a more pale grey/beige.

I have now repainted in F&B skimming stone it looks very classy cool and much brighter - and the same colour will now be repeated around the house

averythinline, thanks for your reply. I love green too. My sitting room is F&B Vert de Terre. I love it but will probably not go green in the hall as well.

fairislecable I have the F&B colour chart here. Skimming stone is beautiful. I could see how it would contrast beautifully with white skirting. I'm mulling over Purbeck Stone as well but am afraid it might be too dark.

I've just started a thread asking for suggestions for carpet colours for my hall, stairs and landing. I've attached a couple of photos. Not sure if it will be any help? The grey we have used is really lovely with the wooden flooring.

Thanks Icequeen01 I will definitely lurk on your thread. Lovely wallpaper btw Smile

Thank you. We have never had the courage to use wallpaper before and usually just paint everywhere. We are really pleased with it.
