Our 3 bed house with 1 bed ensuite extension at the back came with inherited papered ceilings (an utter blight) and all the walls are papered so that would be a lot of scraping. In addition, paintwork is poor, all the light switches and sockets are old fashioned and need replacing and the downstairs cloakroom needs replacing altogether. In fact downstairs is tired and dated throughout and desperately needs some refurb work in one or two places then the whole thing decorating on top of that. 'Downstairs' comprises porch, office, open plan living/dining room, cloakroom, kitchen and utility.
I've had at least half a dozen companies come out to quote for doing the work but the problem is they just don't get back to me. I wait and eventually contact the company only to be given excuses, at which point I try someone else. One of the companies was recommended by our local council as a 'trusted trader' but let us down quite badly. I'm running out of places and people to try!!!
The thought of taking on a project of this magnitude myself fills me with dread. Years ago, before ill health took over, I would have tackled it but not now, which is why I've been trying to engage a company to do it for me. Since I've thus far been unable to find someone reliable I don't know what else to do and time seems to just march on without any progress being made...
Is anyone in similar or same situation? Or were you? If sorted, what did you do? How did you resolve?
