Paint to go with Sanderson Annandale Sepia wallpaper?

I would appreciate any ideas for skirting, wall above the picture rail and ceiling. Here is a photo of the room with its current colours which look a bit green against the fireplace tiles and grey marble mantlepiece.

Ideally it would be light-white on the skirting/coving, deeper on the wall above the rail and a bit more mushroomy on the ceiling

That's lovely paper - I'd match the colours in the design. The woodwork would look great painted the same colour as the wooden shutters in one of the photos of the paper. I prefer ceilings left white. Anything darker can just look grubby, even with high ceilings.

I agree with wowfudge. It’s stunning wallpaper and it will look fab in your room. I wouldn’t over complicate the paint scheme. I’d also do a white on the ceiling but I might make it a slightly softer white.

Softer as in creamier?

Whatever white that looks good with your beautiful paper and whatever paint colour your end up using. I was thinking brilliant white might not look right with the rest of the room.

I've just painted the ceilings in our downstairs loo and hall pure brilliant white - they were previously barley white, so a slightly yellow-brown white. The difference in how light the rooms feel is significant. I never spent time looking at the ceilings though and only ever thought they were overdue a freshen up.

If you take your wallpaper to a colour mixing desk in b&q for example they can colour match from the wallpaper and then you'll know the shades or contrast colours from that colour scheme. We had to do that with one of ours as we couldn't get the paint right.

I can see the effects of good and bad colour choices after the fact but not before IYSWIM.

Here is the kind of scheme I had in mind. It looks really good. Magnolia above dark rail, bright woodwork and relatively mushroomy ceiling. But someone else put that together for me :)

I think that is one colour too many, you could do the white woodwork then the mushroomy colour above the picture rail and in the ceiling.

I guess the wallpaper in the other room is essentially colourless....

In terms of the standard Dulux whites I guess it’s orchid white or Apricot white.

Get testers and paint some pieces of paper right up to the edges. Then you can slide them under the paper and see how closely the colours match.
