The kitchen is being knocked through to the dining room. I need to pick a kitchen and don’t know what colour / whether to get gloss or not / breakfast bar or dining table (room to small for both). Im not great at home decor and can’t find any enthusiasm for choosing. Please can someone just tell me what to do with it Grin. Probably getting it from Howdens.

Do you have another room for a table if you don't put it in the kitchen? Why would you not have a table in there?

I have gloss units - inherited with house, and the pros and cons are

  1. very easy to keep clean
  2. Brighten the room as they reflect light

Cons
Hate them!!
Look cheap
I prefer more New England looks.

So it depends on which type of kitchen you prefer - very modern or more New England.

I have wooden worktops - I could not recommend as they are hell to keep clean, every crumb sticks to them and then with all the cleaning you have to keep roiling them. Go stone or quartz if you can afford to.

Send some replies and I can send you more detailed ideas.
I love Pinterest but I already have thousands of kitchen pics there so it can be quite overwhelming for someone who is not a design nerd like me.

Ooh fab thanks for the replies. It’s a small dining room and small kitchen at the minute so it won’t be massive when knocked through. I sort of like the gloss but don’t want it if it will look cheap. Budget isn’t great but I want to plan it without worrying too much about budget (though keeping it reasonable) and then cut back after in bits if I need to. i like the idea of a table with a bench/comfy chairs rather than a formal table

We originally wanted gloss but then any we saw up close looked a bit cheap. We went with Howden's Fairford in Brilliant White with long metal handels and the textured oak-effect laminate and love it. Sort of classic but modern.
