Show me your bay windows (please!!)

Currently deciding on living room decor. We have a bay window in 4 sections. There is a radiator in front so can't do floor length curtains. We have 4 grubby cream blinds but want to change them.

How are your bay windows dressed? Blinds / curtains or both? We are having the room painted too so need to decide on fabrics first!

TIA

We have white shutters. They were here when we moved in.
Personally I prefer nets and curtains, but we had to furnish the whole house when we moved in, so we stuck with the shutters and got cheap blinds for everywhere else. Hopefully we will replace them all at some point though:

Having a radiator doesn't mean you can't have full length curtains 🙂

We would have liked shutters but they were insanely expensive to do the whole room, so we economised with wooden blinds. Some day we'll have curtains too.

Roman blinds are an option too

CocoLoco87 · 29/05/2018 13:41

Ah yes, it's not the radiator itself that prevents the floor length curtains. The layout of the room means our sofa is pushed up against the wall and would squash one curtain into the radiator/wall.

Thanks for both replies. I would like Roman blinds but will have to see how expensive they are!

I've made Roman blinds for my bays. They are quite easy if you have access to a machine

NumbersLetters · 29/05/2018 13:45

I used to have curtains everywhere but grew to hate them. Blinds make rooms look larger and fresher. But if you want cosy, go for curtains.

We have two bay windows in our lounge and have white shutters- they are great!

Excuse our picnic lunch in the pic!

CocoLoco87 · 29/05/2018 14:59

I'm intrigued by all the suggestions of wooden blinds - it's not something I'd thought of. I like the look of yours @Ilovewillow

we have grey ikea blinds. cordless so great for our young kids and only £7 each

Scotinoz · 29/05/2018 16:51

We have the same as ilovewillow 🙂 As I say, ours were a poor man's shutter but they've turned out well. The place we used essentially did the exact blinds that Hillary's did, but for around 2/3rds of the cost.

uggmum · 29/05/2018 16:55

I have a curved bay in my lounge. It consists of 5 different panes.

I have 5 Roman blinds in greys.

I used to have curtains but they looked a bit dated.

We have shutters, our window is huge (chair in the bay looks small but is actually a two seater) so it cost a small fortune. We had to make do with curtains upstairs as we couldn’t afford two lots!

We have lovely large windows in our living room, also with the radiator in front of them. The biggest irritation is that the previous tenant built a window seat there - which is lovely but it blocks the radiator!! Storage under the window seat, but can't really put anything in there because it's directly in front of the radiator. I want so badly to rip it out but the dcs are very attached to that window seat. Hmm

We have curtains on the windows that only go down to the bottom of the windows - the radiator is blocked enough without putting the curtains lower over it. I'd love shutters but it's a completely new window frame (the entire thing) and so pristine I don't want anything marring it up at this point.

CocoLoco87 · 29/05/2018 17:12

Ours has a large window sill and I only said to DH the other day that it would be nicer with a window seat! Grin

But then we'd have to find somewhere else for the radiator...

Maybe I need to look into shutters. If we go for a very light pink and grey colour scheme, would you do white shutters?

This is the kind of colour scheme I've been looking at...

Yes I think white shutters would look lovely with that colour scheme. 😃 If you have any kind of nice view out your window I'd be more inclined to go with Roman blinds as I feel shutters obscure the view a lot but if its just onto the street then it doesn't matter as much

GingerIvy · 29/05/2018 17:26

These are when the window frames were replaced. Ignore the frosted glass in the windows - it's clear now. As you can see the area around the window is a pale pink, as is the opposite wall. We have grey/white pinstriped curtains up (they are not fancy nice ones, so will not bore you with a picture). I'm holding off doing the final "what I like" to it, as I am just not sure yet. The window seat, as you can see, blocks the radiator (the pad is also not on it in the picture).

To be fair, the radiator thing is only an issue when it's quite cold in the winter. The rest of the year, it's not a big deal. The other walls, including the walls outside the window area are white (other than the opposite which is a matching pale pink).

We have some pale pink, grey, and white, but I don't like sticking completely with colour schemes, so we have other influences here and there in the room.

CocoLoco87 · 29/05/2018 19:22

Thanks so much for your pictures and comments. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a rug? I've seen one online and if I can find the link I'll post it.

Currently got one of those Ikea cream ones which is now a shade of beige/grey/bleurgh depending on which patch you look at Grin

Our radiators are either side of the bay. A sofa is in the bay but pulled forwards so full length curtains close behind it. I plan on putting a table behind for a vase etc. I want shutters too.

Rugs. Ours is from alternative flooring. Com who can do custom size rugs from amazing fabrics. We've got an awesome blue and teal liberty print.

PlayingForKittens · 29/05/2018 19:31

this is our rug fabric, it is amazing. I won't show you my window, it only has temp curtains in and looks shit. The room is still a work in progress!
