Plantation shutters

Just starting to loo at plantation shutters for our bedroom. We have a large opening so I’m not sure curtains will work well. What do I need to think about? Will they be warm enough in winter? Will they be too hot if closed for night in summer? Are tier on tier more expensive? Do they protrude into the room when opened?

They won't block light completely so if you need total darkness to sleep you'll need integrated blinds (there's a specialist company who does this to provide blackout) or curtains over - I thought the latter option sounded very odd but actually looks OK IRL.

Hmmm that’s useful thank you; I had hoped this would be the solution but maybe I should consider curtains again...

To be honest I feel a bit like I'm in a prison with them...they look nice, but I just want them out the way so I can let some air and day light in! Right faff having to clear the window sills to fold them back to open a window.
They do keep the heat in well but i wouldn't say they are equivalent to black out.
