Kitchen cabinet colour advice needed

I have a kitchen we inherited when we moved into our house. The cabinets are cream with a black speckled granite work surface. The wall are white and the floor tiles are a mid grey colour.

We can’t afford to replace the kitchen but could potentially have the doors repainted professionally as they are wooden.

I’d like to go for a light grey, however my DH thinks this will date quickly now as everyone has grey kitchens. I think it’s quite a neutral colour which I would prefer.

My question is should I go for the light grey or are there any other colours I could have?

I agree with your DH and find grey soul destroying in its dullness. Look at pale classic shades. What's your overall colour scheme.

The house is mainly painted with eithe white or cream walls and wooden floors. It’s suits the style of house. The house is not one which would suit very strong colours other than in small accents.
I’d like to keep the walls still white and not have to change the work surfaces or tiles in the kitchen. I can’t think of any other neutral colours to painted the wooden cabinets.

I’m happy to change the accents of colour in the kitchen. I just need ideas on what colour to paint the cabinets.

Have a look at the Farrow & Ball whites and creams.

I'd stick to white or cream and paint one wall a bright colour. Grey is depressing and will date very badly.

We debated this and it seemed to end up as a decision between something that would date, the grey, or cream which looked already dated. So we went with the grey! I hope it has about seven years before it starts to look dates.

Dragons,when did you paint use the grey if you don’t mind me asking, ie I’m trying to think how many years I’ll have left?

I’ve just looked at the Farrow and Ball colours and am thinking of maybe the Shaded white which only has a hint of grey.

What about a sage? Equally neutral, but less dateable than grey.

I agree with pickle. Add some colour!

There's plenty you can do with a blue or green base. Adds colour to the kitchen, can be a subtle as you like, won't date like the fashionable colours do.

Sorry, we were going for a new kitchen, but he logic is the same. We went really dark grey. In for a penny...

We've got exactly the same colours at the moment and we're about to repaint the cabinets in F&B Dropcloth (grey). I'm now having second thoughts after reading this but we are decorating to sell, it's not for our own use long term. Any thoughts welcome

We agonised a bit over this but in the end have decided to go for pale grey. Yes it's very now and will date but a) we probably won't realise it has b) it's what we like, white / cream etc we just weren't as keen on and c) we can always repaint in a different colour later.

The right shade of grey won't be depressing or cold. You could always do two shades and have the bottom cupboards a darker colour and the top cupboards a light colour which is a trend less likely to go out of fashion as quickly as grey. Is your kitchen adjacent to the garden? Using a sage green would be lovely to create an extension of natural indoors.
