I feel like I'm not getting the most out of the space I've got in my lounge. It's on the smaller side about 3.6m x 4m if that.

I have 2 DCs and they also use it as the play area as their room is only a box room.

I'm trying to see if there's a way to arrange it to make more space in the centre or maybe just get more out of it IYKWIM. I'm open to all suggestions but just to clarify can't afford big purchases so just looking to rearrange rather than redecorate.

And if this helps the toybox is currently under the window which has a deep windowsill and the sofa could also go there without obstructing it as it comes just under it.
The random rectangle the middle in front of the sofa is a little table we have out 99% of the time so walking room is very limited as rug is usually toyville Blush

Any suggestions? TIA!!!

Could sofa 1 be put under window and tv put on kitchen door wall with toy box underneath it?
Any room in the hallway for your bookcase?

You have a lot of tables? Two plus a pull out nest, can you get rid of the tables and also the rug, I think that rugs make a large room more homely but are not necessary in a smaller room.

We've had massive issues finding wall brackets that fit the awkward tv so we gave up on that one Sad
Maybe worth another look...

The table in the middle is one of the pull out ones.

The one on the side is used by DCs when they draw and do puzzles etc so we're not worried about it getting ruined.
Rug has to stay I'm afraid as the floor is slate and baby needs somewhere to roll around and it's not really ideal for DCs anyway if it was wood I'd have no qualms about binning the rug!

Put up shelves for the books and put table/toy box underneath, get rid or repurpose bookcase somewhere else in house.

And could the children use the top of the toy box as a colouring table so you can remove one of those too.

Final suggestion, get a much bigger rug. A huge one that goes under the front legs of the sofas. The room will look bigger I swear.

I would, if it was possible, put the tv on the wall opposite the fireplace. And put that sofa under the window. I'd put the toy box under the tv and when money allowed replace it with some kind of low storage unit. Something like ikea besta tv bench which is flexible for different storage options as the DC get older. All our tv watching is via a smart tv so I don't have any boxes to worry about though. I'd put the kids table for drawing where the tv is now.

Or if that was too uncomfortable for tv watching, put the tv on the wall above the fireplace, re-hang the doors so they opened the other way, and if funds allowed get a cheap bookcase (ikea billy or something) to go on the other side of the fireplace and get boxes to put on the lower shelves to put toys in and ditch the toy box.
